Participants of the 2008 Copernicus Project Summer Science Internship Program.
For two weeks in July/August of 2008 community college students from Chaffey College, Riverside Community College, Santa Monica College, and Pasadena City College learned pedagogical skills, writing techniques, university transfer information, and the teacher credentialing process. All of this was in addition to a number of interactive and interesting internship experiences led by University of California, Riverside science, mathematics, and engineering faculty and graduate students; Cal Baptist University science faculty; and local teachers. The 2009 Copernicus Project Community College Internships will be taking place from July 27th to August 7th, 2009. This internship program is focused on community college students who are considering a career teaching science or math. Interns will participate in hands-on science, engineering, and math activities while learning pedagogical skills.

Congratulations to Rachael Bedolla – A 2007 Copernicus Project Community College Intern!
The California Women's Conference Scholars Program helps young women in California complete their college educations and realize their goals. Each year, students in the fields of nursing, business, math or science and special education submit applications demonstrating their commitment to community service. One student per field receives a $25,000 scholarship and recognition at the California Governor and First Lady's Conference on Women.

2006 Special Education Scholarship Winner: Rachael Bedolla
Rachael Bedolla, originally from Ontario, California will attend the University of California, Riverside this fall. Bedolla has already completed over 450 hours of volunteer tutoring in reading and writing at a local elementary school through AmeriCorps. She also helped organize fundraisers for Hurricane Katrina victims. In addition, she works to promote literacy and parental involvement in children's education. Bedolla has persevered while raising a daughter, caring for ill parents, and nurturing a marriage and family. She explains that her "circumstances have helped her grow as a person, future teacher and citizen."
